A Ghanaian “uneducated elite” Mag Mens has decried the recent recruitment of celebrities into the media fraternity at the expense of young trained journalists.
According to her, most media managers and Human Resource Managers turn down applications from young journalists in the name of “no vacancy” but within that same period of time, public figures are recruited to do the work journalists go to school for four years to be trained for.
Mag Mens added, that after internship with these media houses, one is told to look elsewhere because there’s no vacancy.
Mag Mens further argued that some people may say these public figures are broadcasters and not journalists. But she queried… are broadcasters not workers in the media space?
When asked to mention names, the “uneducated elite” laughed and said it is obvious for everyone to see.
Miss Mens is, therefore, calling on media managers and HR’s to give equal opportunities to young journalists to prove themselves as are given to public figures because they are equally capable.
