Must Award Schemes Charge For Entry/Registration

In recent times, event organizers; especially award schemes organizers, have been on a constant attack for charging entry / registration / nominations fee for interested participants. Reasons being that, if these charges are accepted, then the credibility of the Awards is doubting because it will seem as though the awards are meant purposely for money.

The question is, IS MUSIC OR CREATIVE ARTS a business venture? If yes, then is it not prudent to consider some aspect as such?

It may interest you to know that, every good business proposal carries in it a very effective sustainability plan . Such that, with or without external funding, the business must still survive. If this statement is agreeable with you, then don’t you think that, finding a reasonable amount as a fee for entry into these awards is important?

Even the Ghana police service and Ghana Armed Forces recruitment process involves paying of registration fees. Is the service not supposed to be a voluntary service? Why is the government not stopping the leadership of the security service from charging these monies? Or should we conclude that, because of these recruitment charges, that is why some of these security staff become corrupt?

Banks refuse given of loans or aid due to the business unattractive nature of creative arts in Ghana. Zylofon Arts Fund is trying it’s best to change that perception but my question is this; how accessible is the fund to the over 1million credible event houses in the country?

Let’s look at this again. Can charging GHC 50 as entry or registration fee have an impact on who wins an award or a competition? If yes, then every confirmed entry in a competition bidding is an automatic winner. If not, then why can we simply begin to face the business fact of creative arts and stop out hypocrisy.

Note
If these category of events must not attach money to its operations, then it is also expected that the general media body across the length and breath of Ghana must be automatically sponsors to these events even if the organizers do not officially contact these media houses.

My humble request is that, “Please let’s allow these young entrepreneurs who have dying love for the arts and want to invest their little to do so freely with expectations of not being choked with debts are I am today”.If this continues, we will continue to live a a dreamy Disney’s world and never realize that dream.

Long live every youth entrepreneur, long live our real dream, long live the arts.
