With over sixteen years of professional experience in the insurance industry, she currently serves as Regional Manager for the Northern Sector of SUNU Assurances Ghana Limited.

Janet Adu-Poku, was born on 4th September 1983 in Takoradi, Ghana. Her story is one of humble beginnings, unwavering faith, perseverance, and purpose. Every experience, whether joyful or painful, has contributed to shaping the woman she has become today.

Janet Adu-Poku is the second of five children born to the late Mr. Anthony Sammy Amoah and Mrs. Emma Comfort Amoah. Growing up in a family where discipline, integrity, hard work, and faith were highly valued laid the foundation for the person she would become.

Being the second child among five siblings taught her to be responsible at a tender age and nurtured qualities of leadership, empathy, and service that would later become defining characteristics of her journey.

Janet Adu-Poku grew up in Essikafoambantem No. 1, a suburb of Takoradi, where her family of six lived in a modest single-room home. Life was simple, and resources were limited, but it was within those humble surroundings that some of the most valuable lessons of her life were learned.

With her father, Mr. Anthony Sammy Amoah, working away from home, her mother, Mrs. Emma Comfort Amoah, became the anchor of her household teaching her kids the importance of integrity, discipline, respect, and perseverance.

As the Regional Commander of the Girls’ Brigade in the Western Region, she ensured that church activities were central to the upbringing of her children. It was during those formative years, that Janet Adu-Poku made a personal commitment that if God established her and fulfilled His plans for her life, she would remain faithful to Him and that decision became a compass that has guided her through every stage of life.

Janet’s educational journey began at Bethel Methodist Preparatory School in Takoradi, where she served as the Girls’ Prefect in Primary Six and actively participated in the school’s spelling bee and quiz teams. These opportunities nurtured her confidence and introduced her to leadership at an early age. Later, She attended OLA Boarding School, Cape Coast, for her junior high education. It was there that her passion for sports first emerged. She became actively involved in netball, eventually serving as team captain, and was also a member of the school’s atenteben group.

Janet Adu-Poku ‘s years at Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ Secondary School became a defining period of growth and self-discovery. She initially enrolled as a science student but encountered academic difficulties that resulted in repeating a year and subsequently moving to the General Arts programme.

She struggled particularly with practical science lessons, often experiencing breathing difficulties during laboratory sessions.At the time, this experience was painful and deeply affected her self-esteem.

However, what felt like a setback eventually became a turning point. Once she transitioned to General Arts, she flourished academically and consistently ranked among the top-performing students in her class.It was also during this period that her love for reading and writing began to take shape.

Janet Adu-Poku became actively involved in the Scripture Union and its drama ministry, eventually serving as the Order Prefect in her final year. Her passion for sports continued to grow under the mentorship of Mr. Kofi Asante, the school’s sports master. He saw potential in Janet that she had not fully recognized and constantly challenged her to become better.

Under his guidance, she participated in athletics, volleyball, and basketball, learning valuable lessons in discipline, teamwork, resilience, and determination. She later pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in English at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Sports remained an important part of her life, and actively represented the university in basketball and volleyball.

Janet Adu-Poku ‘s enthusiasm for basketball was so strong that she worked hard to play for Ghana’s national team but briefly. Her desire for continuous growth led her to obtain a Master of Arts degree in Communication Studies from the University of Cape Coast. She also earned a Diploma in Applied Insurance Studies from the Ghana Insurance College, equipping her with the professional knowledge that would support her future career.

The seeds of her life’s assignment were planted much earlier than she realized. Even as a young girl, she had a special affection for children and young people. She found joy in encouraging, teaching, and supporting those younger than herself.This passion led her to become a certified Sunday School teacher at an early age. She often gathered children to teach them biblical principles, counsel them, and pray with them. Looking back, she can clearly see how God was preparing her for a life of service and mentorship.

Although Janet Adu-Poku was raised in a Christian home, she came to understand that faith is a personal decision. Among the people God used to shape her spiritual life was Apostle Mike Aryee, whose passion for Christ and commitment to nurturing young believers had a profound impact on her. Under his guidance and the influence of other dedicated Sunday School teachers, she gave her life to Christ at the age of twelve.

Through their mentorship, Janet Adu-Poku began to discover and develop the spiritual gifts God had placed within her. Even at that age, she sensed that ministry would form an important part of her future. Whether through church leadership, mentorship, or professional work, she knew she was called to impact lives.

One of the greatest blessings of her life has been her marriage to Rev. Bernard Stephen Adu-Poku. They were married on 2nd January 2010, and together they worship at the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Shiloh Temple, Obuasi.Like many young couples, they entered marriage with different expectations and personalities.

The early years required adjustment, sacrifice, patience, and a willingness to grow together. They experienced their share of challenges, disagreements, and difficult moments, but through prayer and a commitment to biblical principles, they learned how to navigate adversity, extend grace, and strengthen their relationship.

Today, they are blessed with four wonderful children: Sompa, Enyimpa, Adom, and Akyedze. They remain among God’s greatest gifts to them and continue to bring immense joy and purpose to their lives.

One of the most demanding aspects of Janet Adu-Poku ‘s life has been balancing the responsibilities of family, ministry, and a professional career. Working full-time while serving in ministry and raising a family often required careful prioritization and sacrifice.

Her career frequently involved travelling outside Obuasi, creating additional demands on her time and energy. During these periods, she learned to depend on God’s wisdom and strength. Whenever the responsibilities seemed overwhelming, He provided the grace she needed to fulfill each assignment faithfully.

Over the years, she has come to appreciate that balance is not about dividing time equally but about discerning what requires attention in each moment and remaining faithful to it.

Not every part of her story unfolded as she had imagined. Some of her greatest disappointments occurred in areas where she expected support and acceptance.She has experienced rejection, false accusations, bullying, betrayal, and periods of being overlooked despite her efforts and commitment. These experiences were painful and, at times, emotionally exhausting.

They forced her to confront difficult questions about identity, worth, and loyalty.Yet those moments also taught her valuable lessons about emotional well-being, forgiveness, and endurance. They strengthened her character and deepened her dependence on God.

With the unwavering support of her husband, Rev. Bernard Stephen Adu-Poku, trusted friends, and an unshakable belief that brighter days lay ahead, she found the courage to keep moving forward.

Her professional career has been marked by growth, learning, and the opportunity to break new ground.She currently serves as the Regional Manager for the Northern Sector of SUNU Assurances Ghana Limited. Her journey with the company began as a Marketing Executive in the pioneering Takoradi branch.

Following her marriage, her career took her to Kumasi, where she continued serving in the marketing role. Later, she was entrusted with the responsibility of establishing and managing the Obuasi branch from the ground up. Building a branch from scratch demanded vision, consistency, resilience, and leadership; but it also became one of the most rewarding experiences of her professional life.

A few years later, she returned to Kumasi as a Branch Manager, continuing to grow within the organization. Through dedication, consistency, and God’s favour, she progressed into regional leadership, overseeing multiple branches and contributing to the growth of the business.

While she values professional achievement, her greatest fulfillment comes from helping people discover their potential and embrace their worth.Over the years, she has provided guidance and support to individuals navigating relationship challenges, addictions, career decisions, and personal struggles. She has served as a mentor, counsellor, coach, and speaker, helping others find direction and confidence in their lives.
