The first batch of 300 Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa landed at Accra International Airport on Wednesday, May 27, at about 3:00 pm.

Their return follows the government’s pledge to repatriate any Ghanaian wishing to leave amid ongoing enophobic attacks.The evacuation was arranged after reports of vawulence and intimidation targeting foreign nationals in parts of South Africa.

Officials confirmed that all passengers on the Ethiopian Airlines flight were verified Ghanaian citizens who had registered for repatriation.On arrival, authorities outlined the support available to returnees.
This includes a welcome home financial package, transport assistance to their final destinations, a reintegration allowance, and free psychosocial support for those affected by the events.To aid long-term resettlement, a special database has been set up to link evacuees with job and startup opportunities in Ghana.

The goal is to connect returnees quickly with economic pathways and reduce the disruption caused by their abrupt departure.With the first group safely back, the process continues for others still registered. They are now heading back to Ghana as the repatriation process wraps.
