A press release issued by EOCO on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, said the operation was conducted in June this year, following a request from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the United States Justice Department.

EOCO explained that the vehicle was discovered during a lawful search at a residence in Trassaco Valley Phase 1, Accra, and was found to be linked to Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently serving an 86-month sentence in the US for several financial crimes.

Shatta Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah, had pleaded with officials not to make the seizure public, stating that the vehicle was a significant part of his brand.

“Nii Armah had pleaded with officers that he did not want the seizure to be made public because the vehicle was a big part of his brand and that if his supporters saw the vehicle being driven away in the company of EOCO, it would destroy his brand,” the release stated.

The” Gringo” hit singer was allowed to surrender the vehicle himself, which is currently in EOCO’s possessionPrior to the press release, Shatta Wale had taken to social media to accuse the EOCO boss, Raymond Archer, of humiliating him and attempting to use his office for political gain.

“EOCO boss, the President of Ghana didn’t put you in that office to come and humiliate the citizens of this country… Remember God no sleep,” Shatta Wale wrote. The musician further alleged that the EOCO boss’ actions are likely to send the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) packing in the December 7, 2028 elections,But EOCO justified the presence of weapons during the operation, stating that it is “a standard safety protocol practice for officers of the Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) to carry weapons whilst on operation for the safety of officers.

”The FBI and the Justice Department intend to send a formal Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) to the Government of Ghana to return the car to the United States as part of Nana Kwabena Amuah’s $4,743,443 restitution.EOCO has also indicated that Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of the National Signal Bureau (NSB) are persons of interest and will be invited to assist in further investigations.
