Larry Pearson, a 36-year-old Texas resident, was given a 70-year prison term for spitting on Lubbock police officers.
Prior to his recent conviction, Pearson had been arrested in May 2022 for domestic violence after a woman reported to an officer that he had physically assaulted her. The woman said Pearson had hit her multiple times, and according to Prosecutor Jessica Gorman, she had visible injuries at the time of the reported incident.

The victim also informed the police that Pearson had a firearm that was later identified as an airsoft gun.
According to reports from Complex, during his transport to jail, after he was taken into custody, he started to kick the doors inside the police vehicle. Pearson went on to spit at the two officers transporting him after they told him to stop and continued to spit at officers when he arrived at the Lubbock County Detention Center.
Pearson was found guilty of two counts of harassment of a public servant at his sentencing this week, and Gorman asked the jury to “send a message” to Pearson with his sentencing. The prosecutor noted that he had prior convictions for violent robbery and ongoing family violence.

“If you’re going to live the life of crime, you’re going to do that among other criminals [in prison]. You’re not going to get 70 years for something like this when you’ve never been in trouble before,” Gorman stated.
Pearson was facing a minimum sentence of 25 years due to his previous convictions but was sentenced to 70 years.
