Akropong constituency New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Sammi Awuku, has recounted how a constituent of his provided him with a fake obituary of the wife in order to syphon money from him.
According to the former NPP Organiser, many politicians are burdened with the task of having to financially assist individuals who come to them for aid.
The Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) noted that while some of the concerns are genuine, others are not, citing himself as a victim at the hands of tricksters.

In an interview on Peace FM, he recounted the time when an individual came to him to solicit funds for his wife’s funeral. He noted that he had already fallen prey to tricksters; thus, he asked for proof and was provided with an obituary.
He gave in and supported the man, only to find out that he had fabricated his wife’s demise.
“Someone printed a poster of his wife’s obituary, not knowing it was not true. He came to me. I asked when it was because during my time as a youth organizer, people took advantage of me, so I used science and data.

“He was lucky and got to trick me. A month later, I saw him and asked why he was no longer in black, just a short period after his wife’s burial. He was with someone, and the individual asked him when his wife passed. He told his friend that it is not everything I have to tell you.
“I was like, what, your own friend? Later, his friend called and told me that his wife had not passed,” he said.
