Kennedy Agyapong mourns the passing of late Theresa Kufuor

New Patriotic Party(NPP) Presidential Hopeful Kennedy Agyapong has expressed his deep sorrow and condolences over the passing of former First Lady and wife of former President Kufour, Theresa Kufuor

Mad. Theresa Kufuor, who was only a few days shy of her 88th birthday, died in the afternoon of October 1, 2023.

The Assin Central Lawmaker, in a heartfelt statement, eulogized the former First Lady’s remarkable qualities, describing her as an exceptional individual and a mother-figure to all Ghanaians.

Kennedy Agyapong praises Mrs. Kufour

He expressed profound appreciation for her contributions to the presidency and the nation as a whole.

“She was an outstanding First Lady and a true mother to all of us. I appreciate her contribution to you as the President and the republic in general. I cannot forget her gracious attitude towards humanity and her absolute respect for all,” part of the statement stated.

Kennedy Agyapong also acknowledged the deep loss felt by the entire nation and extended his condolences to President John Agyekum Kuffour.

“Our nation has indeed lost an irreplaceable treasure in Mama Theresa. Consequently, I pause momentarily to send my most heart heartfelt condolences to President John Agyekum Kuffour from whom I have learned immense lessons.

“May God grant her perfect rest in peace……Demirifa due, due ne amane hunu,” the statement added.

Brief bio of the former First Lady

Mrs Kufuor started her education at the Catholic Convent in Keta, in the Volta Region. After that, she went to London and became a Registered Nurse after getting her education from Southern Hospital Group of Nursing in Edinburgh, Scotland.

After she graduated from the Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford, and Paddington General Hospital, London, she became a State Certified Midwife with a Certificate in Premature Nursing.

Theresa married John Kufuor when he was 23 years old after they met at a Republic Day Anniversary Dance in London in 1961. They got married in 1962. Theresa has five children with John Kufuor

She was First Lady of Ghana for eight years from January 7, 2001 and January 6, 2009.
