Kennedy Agyapong singles dishonesty and indiscipline as detrimental to Ghanaian businesses

Assin Central MP and flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has highlighted the issues of indiscipline and dishonesty as key factors contributing to the collapse of businesses in Ghana.

The lawmaker pointed out that he concluded, upon a careful analysis of the challenges faced by businesses in the country, that lack of discipline and dishonesty are major hindrances to their growth.

In an interview on TV3’s New Day on August 16, 2023, Mr. Agyapong stressed the need for politicians to give priority to addressing the issues affecting Ghanaian businesses, promising to see to the root of the very issues, if given the nod as President of the nation. He stated that he would bring discipline and put in place measures to curb these problems, ultimately promoting an environment conducive to business growth.

“We [Ghanaians] are not poor because foreigners have shown us clearly that Ghana is rich. Why is it that foreign investments are doing well in this country and we Ghanaians, our businesses are not flourishing? Have we thought of that? Have we questioned ourselves? As a businessman, I have come to realize that the dishonesty in this country is killing our businesses.

“Indiscipline is killing our businesses. So we have to make sure we are disciplined, we are honest, and we are patriotic. So what I’m bringing on board as an experienced businessman or entrepreneur, is my experiences. I’ll bring it to bear,” he said.

Kennedy Agyapong speaks on foreign business success

Kennedy Agyapong cited the success of foreign investments in Ghana and questioned why local businesses were not flourishing in the same way. He attributed this discrepancy to the lack of discipline and honesty among local entrepreneurs, emphasizing that these qualities are essential for businesses to thrive.

The NPP is preparing for its presidential primaries, which are scheduled for August and November 2023. Ten candidates are vying for the party’s presidential candidacy for the 2024 elections, including prominent figures like Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen.
