The appointment positions Gyan as the public face of Ghana’s national teams in the build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the USA, Mexico, and Canada. In his new capacity, Gyan will lead promotional campaigns, fan engagement initiatives, and corporate partnerships aimed at mobilizing nationwide support for the Black Stars.

He will also represent the GFA at official functions and champion the development of Colts football, Ghana’s grassroots and youth system.“This is not just an honor, it’s a responsibility,” Gyan said during the unveiling. “Ghana football has given me everything, and I will continue to serve this country with passion and dedication.”GFA President Kurt Okraku said the decision leverages Gyan’s stature, experience, and connection with fans to strengthen national pride and build momentum ahead of Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance.

The event drew former Black Stars teammates including Stephen Appiah, Anthony Baffoe, and Prince Tagoe, alongside musicians DopeNation and Kwabena Kwabena, corporate partners, and media. Speakers highlighted Gyan’s influence both on and off the pitch and his ability to connect with younger generations.Gyan remains Ghana’s all-time leading scorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances.

He is also Africa’s top scorer in FIFA World Cup history with 6 goals, scored across the 2006, 2010, and 2014 tournaments. He netted Ghana’s first-ever World Cup goal against the Czech Republic in 2006.

With the 2026 World Cup set to kick off in June, the GFA hopes Gyan’s ambassadorship will bridge the gap between the current squad, past legends, and the next generation of Ghanaian footballers.
