Veronica Arthur, a married woman in Takoradi, has accuses some officers of the Ghana Police Service of tearing apart her waist beads and arresting her husband at Nkroful, a community in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region.

Narrating the incident to the host of Connect FM’s Omanabapa morning show, she told Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson that they were sleeping around 1:00 am on Tuesday, July 12 when about 15 men, claiming to be police officers forcefully entered their room to arrest her husband, Sixtus Arthur.

The hard-pressed wife indicated that one of the police officers held her waist in the heat of the moment and tore her beads.

“We were sleeping around 1:00am when we heard a knock at the door. We opened the door and saw about 15 men claiming to be police officers.

“They forcefully entered our room and started searching for my husband. I was trying to talk to them but they kept pushing me away. I wanted to go out and pass urine but one of the officers held my waist, pulled me back, and tore my beads. I came back to the room and saw them manhandling my husband without any reason,” she alleged.

She adds that only one of the officers was in uniform with a pump action gun.

“One of them was in uniform with a pump action gun. With the rest, some of them were holding spanners,” she added.

It is currently unknown what triggered the arrest but the mother of the suspect, Naana Yaaba, indicates that all efforts to trace the whereabouts of her son have proven futile.

“We have been to Central, Harbor, and Sekondi police stations to find out if he was sent there but all to no avail. We currently do not know where he has been taken to,” she narrated.

Information indicates that the arrest relates to ongoing chieftaincy issues in the community.

The suspect is said to be the secretary to the substantive chief, Nana Kobina Gyan II.

It is, however, unclear the crime leading to the arrest of the young man. Their narration still remains allegations.
