Grammy award-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy has shared a controversial tweet in which he described himself as being the highest-paid artist in African history.

The ‘Odogwu’ star made this declaration in a series of tweets on his official Twitter handle.

Burna Boy made it clear that even though money doesn’t satisfy him, nothing takes away the fact that when it comes to who is the highest-paid musician in African history, he does hold the title.

His claim comes after Twitter handle identified as @Touringdata shared statistics of Burna Boy’s achievements from his concert ticket sales, booking fees and revenue generated from music sales.

While many consider Senegal’s Youssou N’Dour as the richest musician in Africa, after having enjoyed both critical acclaim and commercial success over the course of his career and being considered one of the continent’s most influential figures, data exists to support the claim by the Nigerian as the highest-paid artiste in Africa.

The Nigerian ranks seven of the ten most lucrative single shows by an African artist. Midway through 2022, his One Night in Space performance at Madison Square Gardens was the most expensive ever by an African, generating at least $1,576,641 in ticket sales.

Burna Boy is presently the second most-played Nigerian artist on Spotify, as his distinctive Afrofusion sound, which combines elements of Afrobeat, dancehall, and hip-hop, has earned him global recognition. Burna Boy’s music is mainly pop and Afrobeats. He describes his music as Afro-fusion, which blends the genres R&B, hip hop, dancehall, and reggae.
