Singer Fameye has expressed his dismay at not winning the ‘Songwriter of the Year’ category at the just-ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards(VGMA).
Speaking to Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, the ‘Praise’ hitmaker said he believed he was more deserving of the award.
“Honestly, I was a little bit disappointed, even though the awards are just for bragging rights. Sometimes your fans get disappointed because they want to get the bragging right and be sitting somewhere and boast about you,” he said.

Fameye, who lost out the award to Gospel musician Perez Muzik, said he expected Piesie Esther to win that award aside from him.
“Honestly I knew that if I don’t win maybe Piesie Esther will take it.”

The Mati singer was nominated in the same category as Black Sherif, Diana Hamilton, Ewura Abena, Piesie Esther, and Perez Muzik.
Fameye also claimed he had never heard the song that won Perez Musik the ‘Songwriter of the Year’ award.
“I didn’t even know that Perez song. I only heard it after he was announced as the winner of the category. But I think he deserved it because it sounded nice when they played in the auditorium.”

Fameye is known for his emotional and introspective lyrics, which often deal with issues concerning love, poverty and self-reflection. He has won several awards, including the Best New Artiste Award at the 2020 Ghana Music Awards USA. He is best known for his single “Nothing I Get”. He released a remix of the song which featured musician Article Wan.
