Data provided by NTC on the results from this year’s examination for teachers who have graduated from Universities and Colleges of Education show that over 80% of candidates who sat for this year’s examination failed woefully.

Out of a total of seven thousand seven-hundred and seventy-eight (7778) candidates who sat the exam, only one thousand two-hundred and seventy-seven (1277) passed.

Speaking to Citi News on Tuesday evening, Mr. Dennis Osei Owusu expressed worry over the results, describing it as a national security issue.

“This is a national security threat that we need to pay attention to as a country. These are teachers who have written exams, some for the 9th time. The least is twice”

“This particular situation is urgent and we need to pay attention because we are talking about teachers who are coming to teach our future generation and so if a teacher cannot even write his or her own name then we have something at hand that we need to tackle”, the PRO of the National Teaching Council said.

Proposing how the situation can be remedied, Mr. Dennis Osei Owusu calls on stakeholders to come together and look at a way forward to change the narrative. He sees dire consequences in all sectors if nothing is done about the situation.

“The Minister of Education is aware of everything that is happening today and is making sure we do the right thing. This is an issue that has to do with the future of this country. If one teacher pollutes 100 students you can just imagine the side effects. There is a need for proper stakeholder consultation and not just sit in our house and politicize it,” the PRO stressed.
