Ghanaian Dancehall musician Shatta Wale has directed at his fellow artist Stonebwoy a sharp critique, following the latter’s recent interview with TV host Berla Mundi.
1Gad and the TV host were engaged in a live Twitter spaces discussion on August 24, where they delved into the current state of the Ghanaian music industry, particularly in light of the successful O2 arena concert by Nigerian artist Asake.
In the course of the interview, Stonebwoy’s manager had also shed light on why the artiste couldn’t perform at the Afronation Detroit festival, pointing fingers at sabotage and gatekeeping from certain Nigerian industry figures.
When asked about the pressures faced by Ghanaian artists to match the achievements of their Nigerian counterparts, Stonebwoy suggested that simply succumbing to these pressures wouldn’t solve the underlying issues. Instead, he emphasized the need for more industry awareness and structural improvements to foster genuine growth.

Shatta Wale, on the other hand, expressed strong disapproval of Stonebwoy’s comments in a widely circulated video on social media. Shatta Wale argued that Stonebwoy was diminishing his own status and would never receive the same level of respect and attention as top Nigerian artists.
“Stonebwoy was asked if he was facing pressure, and he said no pressure, but awareness. You dress and do your Instagram photos like Burna Boy. Hasn’t anyone told you? You are facing pressure, which is why you want to go on stage later, you want to be on stage at the same time as Wizkid? Look at what you did at AfroNation Detroit. You were given time to come on stage, you wanted to go at the time you wanted.
“You allow yourself to be paid $10,000 while Burna Boy gets paid $300,000. Did you expect to be treated like an important person? You are just a curtain raiser!! You will never get the same platform as Wizkid, Davido, or Burna Boy!” he fumed.
